If I had to use one word to sum up our trip to Alaska, I'd use PHENOMENAL!
It doesn't even compare to our previous visit, which we thought was spectacular. However in 2002, we booked only about a month before sailing, having come across a great bargain. We planned what we could, and winged the rest, not knowing what we were missing until we were in Alaska. Having had the previous experience, made us much wiser when planning this time.
And all our planning paid off! Our favorite tour of the trip was our adventure to Anan Creek. Nothing else even came close. But the helicopter ride to land on a glacier in Skagway, and whale watching in Juneau, were also amazing. I'd recommend all three to anyone heading to Alaska in the future. For Alex and I, this trip was about soaking in as much scenery and wildlife as we possibly could (and we did A LOT); and less about the leisurely ship activities and socializing. Although we did quite well balancing our desire to see Alaska with spending quality time with my family. It could not have worked out better.
We will definitely return a third time to Alaska, someday. But now having accomplished a lot of what we wanted to see and do, it has fallen down a notch on our places to visit. We will probably take a few other trips to locations we've been wanting to see, before returning again.
